KÜNSTLER BIOGRAFIE

Rifai Ahmad wurde in Derk (Nord Syrien) geboren. Er absolvierte die Fine Art Academy in Damaskus. In den Jahren 1999, 2001 und 2003 war er an der Ausstellung von jungen syrischen Künstlern “Spring” beteiligt. Seine Kunstwerke auf Leinwand in Öl und Acryl wurden in Kuwait, Irak, Syrien, Libanon, Türkei und Deutschland ausgestellt. 2010 und 2011 war er Preisträger in der Kategorie als „Upcoming Artist“ bei einer Ausstellung der Regierung im National Museum von Damaskus . Im Jahr 2016 stellte er am Amtshof für Kultur (Feldkirch / Kärnten) und im Künstlerhaus Klagenfurt aus, 2017 im Kunst und Kulturzentrum „Flucht nach Vorn” in Wien.
Seine Wurzeln der Malerei liegen in seiner Kindheit, als er nur mit Kohle und einfachen Mitteln malen konnte. Als er von Al Qamshli nach Damaskus zog, entwickelte sich seine Kunst in abstrakte und ausdrucksvolle Richtungen. Im Unterschied zu herkömlichen Realitäten und Lebensumständen, prägten Konflikte und Krisen seinen Weg. Seine Bilder versuchen zu erfassen was jenseits des Horizonts unserer Wahrnehmung liegt . Das Leben schuf ein neues Leben, der Krieg schuf ein neues Leben.

Rifai Ahmad was born in Derk (North Syria). He studied in the Fine Art Academy in Damascus. 1999, 2001, 2003 he was participant at young Artist exhibition ”Spring” of Syrian Artists with paints on canvas with oil and acryl. His Artwork was exhibited in Kuwait, Iraq, Syria, Libanon, Turkey and Germany. In 2010 and 2011 in the National Museum of Damascus at an exhibition of the Government he was Awardwinner in the category as upcoming artist. In 2016 he exhibited at Amtshof für Kultur (Feldkirch/Kärnten) and the Künstlerhaus Klagenfurt. 2017 at the Kunst und Kulturzentrum „Flucht nach Vorn” in Vienna.
His roots of painting lie in his childhood when he painted with coal and simple means due to the scarce resources. When he moved from Al Qamshli to Damascus his artwork turned into abstract and expressive directions. In differ to normal realities and circumstances his way lead through conflicts and crisis. His pictures try to grasp what is beyond the horizon of perception. The life made a new life, the war made a new life.

“In Syria everything there is abstract. Because everything has become abstract, everything is destroyed. In every street you will see abstract scenes. Painters and Sprayers use the abandoned houses and walls to intervene in that apocalyptic scene with art more than any Artist can have imagined it. It became a dark picture which has become reality.”
